Small groups are the place where true discipleship happens. Commitment to the small group process is a requirement for registering for the course. Although in the beginning some people feel anxious about small groups, over the course of the year the Lord will transform and bond the groups into spiritual families.

If you are beginning a group with a small number of participants, groups may be formed based upon affinity of members. Otherwise, it is recommended that small groups include a range of ages and denominations. People grow and are stretched as they hear from others in various seasons of life and different stages of their spiritual journey. This also provides an opportunity to share with people whom you may have never met before. The small group truly becomes a microcosm of the Body of Christ, the church universal.

Confidentiality is a must within small groups. It needs to be reiterated often throughout the year and the commitment to it upheld.

It is a requirement of The Call to Discipleship that all participants commit to the small group process. It is unacceptable for people to attend the teaching but not participate in a small group. Actual discipleship occurs within the small group structure as participants share their experiences, insights and questions about daily application. Be sure to emphasize and instruct the participants concerning the importance of small groups. Attendance should be taken each week. Each of the 30 weekly teachings for either year of The Call to Discipleship builds on the principles previously learned. Therefore, we recommend 80% attendance as a minimum commitment for registration.
